New Pitt commit: 'I really love it here'

To say that Kyle Nunn’s visit to Pitt this weekend was a success would be an understatement.

In fact, the Findlay (Oh.) prospect liked his first experience in Pittsburgh so much that he punctuated the visit with a commitment on Saturday afternoon.

“I liked the coaches and the facilities,” Nunn told Panther-Lair.com on Saturday after he committed. “It definitely has a home feeling and I just liked the atmosphere of the city.”

Nunn has been in touch with Pitt linebackers coach Rob Harley “for about four months now,” he estimated, but his two-day visit with the Panthers took things to another level. On Friday, head coach Pat Narduzzi offered him a scholarship, and from there, it didn’t take Nunn long to decide on Pitt.

“When I got the offer, I kind of had a feeling,” Nunn said. “I went back to the hotel and talked it over with my family, and it just seemed like the right fit for me.

“There was a moment when it all clicked for me. It was when I was taking a tour [Saturday] morning and I got to see everything and I was walking around campus and I felt like, ‘I could see myself here. I really love it here.’

“Then I talked to Coach Narduzzi after the spring game in the locker room. I told him I want to commit, I want to be part of the Panthers. He congratulated me and said he was really excited about it.”

Nunn chose Pitt over offers from West Virginia, Iowa State, Northwestern, Indiana, Toledo, Buffalo, Miami (Oh.) and Bowling Green.

While the atmosphere of Pitt’s campus sold Nunn on the Panthers, he said his relationships with the coaching staff went a long way in sealing the deal as well.

“I love Coach Harley,” he said. “I think he has a lot of good energy and I think that what he brings to the table with his knowledge of the position is really something I like about him.

“I love Coach Narduzzi, too. He really cares about the players and how we feel; that’s what I really like.”

Nunn spent Saturday afternoon watching Pitt’s Blue-Gold Game, a defensive battle that ended with a 19-17 score. He said the Pitt coaches see him as an outside linebacker, and that’s a role the 6’3” 195-pound prospect thinks could be a good fit.

“I liked the spring game a lot. I think I could fit the defense pretty well. They said I could play outside linebacker, I think I can play the outside spot well because I have good speed and I can take good angles to stop the outside run and the passing plays that go out there.”

Nunn is the third recruit to pick Pitt in the class of 2017 and the first since October. He joins Johnstown cornerback Exree Loe and Steel Valley safety Paris Ford.
